3rd Beazilina stop

The 3rd Brazilian stop took place in Vitoria- ES, we were really lucky to finish the single elimination right on the first day at 06:00pm since all of the others 4 days the wind didn't show up and the rain fell non stop.

With this win I'm 2011 Brazilian Champion!! I'm really happy to have achieved that and to have won the Nationals for 5X times now.

Just for fun I also competed on the males division and I came third behind the boys from Cumbuco that are incredible riders.

The Super Kite Brasil 2011 just finished yesterday here in Cumbuco, the event was quite interesting since parat from Freestyle they also had a Surf Jam with big names such as ben Wilson, Ian Alldredge and Patrick Rebstock.

I won the Freestyle on the girls division and Alex Pastor won the men's, the leve for the guys was pretty high since all the Cumbuco boys joined in on the competition.

2nd stop of the Brazil Kite Tour

I've just won the second stop of the Brazilian nationals here in Barra do Cunhau, we had a great event with wind every day and lots of young brazilian rippers to put up a great show.
Now I'll have a couple of days of to rest and prepare for the Pkra Brazil that starts here in only 2 days! I'm looking forward to see how the boys from Cumbuco will perform ;)

The Brazilian tour started and this year we have a even bigger tour, sponsored by Volkswagen the Brazilian tour will have 4 stops this year. We just completed the first one in Cumbuco- CE and I started my Brazilian campaign with a win! Really looking forward for the next ones ;)

Fuerteventura 2011

Another Pkra stop has been completed this Saturday, this was the legendary Fuerteventura event, as expected we had very strong winds, I was hardly holding on to my 5.5m Ion.
On this event I took the 3rd place, I know I could have done better but that's competition, some days you are just not feeling good and things don't go according to plan. Luckily we still have 4 events to go where things can fall into place!

Today the Ro Sham Throw Down wrapped up, no need to say that the obstacles were incredibly fun and it's the atmosphere in Hood River is super good.
There was an amazing turn out for girls, we were 11 out in the water! Such a nice thing to see...
To wrap up a great time out here I won the event and I'm going home tomorrow with a big smile.

2011 SSS

The 2011 Triple S started off with windless days but nothing that a winch and a couple of jet skis couldn't fix. The winch was the high light of those days, we had some really fun sessions where we could all ride, hit the rail and sit on the deck waiting for our next turn while watching the others.

After those days of warming up playing with the winch and this skis, the wind kicked in strong and we had a solid 3 days of wind from morning to sunset, the dies played out pretty similar, we would spend the whole day on the water until the golden light session was over, then head home for a quick shower, dinner at Mojo's and straight off to one of Real's parties. By the end of the event we were all extremely tiered but with big smiles on our faces.

I had loads of fun out there and had the most quality riding of all my Triple S years, that showed on my results, I took the win on the Triple S overall award with 2nd on Surf, 1st on Slicks and 1st on Sliders. This last one is the one that meant the most to me, I really wanted to do good on that category and it was my personal challenge.

This is that time of year where the Mystic crew gets together to shoot the new collection, enjoy each others company and have a good time. We just wrapped up the shoot and it was a very good one, the best of all in my opinion. I'm really looking forward to seeing the results. There will be some exciting things coming from Mystic in the near future. ;)

Marrocos Experience

As I arrived to Dahkla on the middle of the night I wondered where that 4X4 was taking us since all I saw was darkness and the bit of desert the head lights would reach, I was unsettle until I got out of the car and got stroked by the beauty of the sky, there were so many starts that's hard to describe, there all my worries about being away from civilization suddenly disappeared and from that night thru all this 10day all I saw were the advantages of going back to a simple life style.

As I connected to the internet as soon as I arrived back to Spain I thought: " Internet! Finally! " but that was not really how I felt, it was more of an instinct then an actual relieve, truth is that it's been amazing this 10 days on the middle of the Sahara desert with no connection to the rest of the world.

The only negative thing about this lack of connection was that I couldn't update the blog and post that I won the event :) I wanted to upload the pics and spread the good news but I had to wait until the plane touched down in Spain.

The competition was amazing, the conditions were perfect for freestyle, flat water and 9m weather, we were actually pretty lucky with the wind since the days before and the day after the comp it was howling for an overpowered 5.5m session.

I'm pretty happy with my riding, it all came together and I had some pretty good heats. All the other girls were also riding really good so the competition was very tight, I think this stop really showed how the level of the girls went up, yesssssss!! We are getting somewhere with all this!

This time all my gear worked very well and I had no unluckiness on the comp, the only bump was that my leash snapped on the final against Gisela and I lost the kite remaining one minute to go, a minute never went slower, Gisela pulled two tricks on that time but I had done lots of tricks up to that point and that was enough to take the win.

Now I'm taking all this new motivation from this win in Marrocos to put into some training and get ready for Leucate!

a little bit of Thailand

With the forecast not looking too good we had to rush the double elimination and incredibly we finished the single and the double all in one day, we had an early start at 8:30 am and the wind stayed all the way until dark.

I stayed with my 3rd place after defending my position against Holly Kennedy then challenging Karolina Winkowska for the 2nd place, unfortunately on my heat I made a tactical error and tried a trick too close to the beach, since the wind was offshore I got stuck on a wind shadow and my kite stayed on the water for half of the heat, it's so frustrating to be on the water trying to relaunch while there's a heat foxing on!

Since the competition finished quite early on the week we had a lot of time to get to know the place and do some tourism, it was amazing and the culture here is beautiful, here are some pics that show a little bit of it :)

Thailand

So, the first stop of the tour here in Thailand hasn't been going as plan, but there's no need to loose the good humor, as writing this I realized that there's a lot of positive thing to take from it.

I got here all exited for the competition and boom! I got an Asian flu instead of a smile as as welcome gift, I managed to have a full on cold in Thailand and better yet, fever! Now imagine having fever where it's 39 degrees….hmmm.

The spot also showed us it's dark side, from beautiful sunny and warm Thailand we went to beautiful rainy and cold Thailand, there is wind so we'll compete anyway, we can't afford to way for the nice sun to come back :) So on the first trick of my first heat my board snaps, luckily I managed to land some tricks and Karo Winkowska was good to me and landed me her spare board for the rest of the competition.

Then on my next heat I found out the judges weren't taking in consideration the competition area, I saw one of the tricks from the other competitor considerably far out of the box and went to talk with the head judge, this is what he tells me: " haaa, yeah, we area not taking in consideration the down wind booyes" Geee! thanks for letting me know NOW, after I spent precious time of my heat trying to stay within the competition box!!

I haven't been here that long but I already got to take a lot of lessons from this trip:

- Thailand can get pretty cold, so I might want to back a little bit more then bikinis next time I come.
- Always travel with a spare board even thou all of them broke, just find any other one.
-Make sure to remind the head judge that he should warn the riders when he decides to disconsider the competition are, because mistakes such as those on events such as this one, where the wind is rare, can compromise a result for the whole stop.

Looking forward for the rest of the trip here, I'll have my fingers crosse for more wind to finish the double! Luckily the amazing yummy Thai food remains the same and the massages are as good as ever!

Red Bull Mobile launch

In between my training down here in Cape Town I took a little break and joined the Red Bull crew for the Red Bull Mobile launch party in Johannesburg, they flew in most of SA's athletes and our kiteboarding crew formed by Ruben lenten, aaron Hadlow and myself.

The venue was amazing, it was the Turbine Hall, this huge stylish warehouse that got turned into a massive dance floor, a vip area and some private lounges to sit and drink with your friends. As for the night's attraction we had the boys from BC One and Street Style pulling out cool moves, as for the music we had The Beat Bangaz, Black Coffee, Goldfish and to end the night in style, Faithless, which was my personal favorite.

For those who are wondering hat Red Bull Mobile is here is a quick explanation: Red Bull in association with Cell C developed a customized Red Bull smartphone that has free access to all the Red Bull content and can be bought as a contract mobile phone from the 25th of Feburary, my birthday :)

No need to say we had a great time at the party, after that I had a quick night of sleep caught the flight back to Cape Town and managed to have a very fun session with my 9m Hadlow Pro when I arrived. After the session I went straight to dinner and from there to bed for a good night of sleep at last!

Cape Town for the Winter

This winter I decided to come back to Cape Town to get some training done, it's been 2 yearssince I last came and everything is quite different, for my surprise so I am, the last winters I spent here I always had a hard time with the wind, never managed to learn anything new and ended up being frustrated, but this year has been different, I'm much more comfortable with the crazy Cape Town winds and my training is going much better. It's been really fun in general to be here, there's a bunch of riders around, good old days friends, and girls to ride with! Not any girls too, they are Jalou Langaree and Jo Wilson, rippers that unfortunately don't come to the competitions anymore but are still on the top of their game.

The other day we had a good session in Lagabeen with Aaron Hadlow and Rui Meira, the spot was nice and flat for a change and I managed to ride with my 7m before the wind got to strong and sand was blowing everywhere. Rob and Fiona Claisse from Progression were filming loads and taking shots, here are some of them.

Today is one of my rest days, it's been windy pretty much everyday and the days there was no wind I ended up either going to the cable park, surfing or running chores, so today will be a full day of doing absolutely nothing :)

For now the forecast doesn't look too good for the next days so hopefully the swell will pick up and there will be some epic South African surf to entertain us.

Results and Gala dinner

This is it!! the end of the PKRA Tour has arrived, we all live thru so much together, from moments of pure happiness to frustration and disappointment, the important thing is that we were a strong crew all the way, pursuing personal goals and at the same time working together to promote our sport and have a brighter future for it.

To celebrate such an important journey we had a gala dinner to present the winners of the event and the overall ranking, it was a beautiful ceremony, everyone was looking sharp on our gala outfits and most importantly we're all smiling and having a good time.

For myself I'm very happy with how this competition year finished for me, I won the event here at Gold Coast and with that result finished in 2nd on the overall ranking. When I look back to how this year started for me I can't believe I actually managed to have such a good outcome, I've been thru all kinds of obstacles, you name it, it happened to me this year! On the process I've learned a lot and I wouldn't have done it any other way, I'm happy to have been able to turn things around and pick it up towards the end of the year to finish in 2nd.

For my partners on this crazy world tour, thanks everyone, it's been a pleasure to do all of that in your company and see you next year!!

1st at the singles on the Gold Coast

After a long wait for the wind we had a real taste of Goal Coast's sick conditions, the wind started off early and slowly built up during the day until it was perfect for a 9m session, just add the kickers and we were set! The sun came out strong and lots of people that were complaining about the rain regretted, we all fried on the beach, it's amazing how much the sun burns here, no wander in every competitor pack there was a bottle of sunscreen! Without it it would've been catastrophe.

My first heat was against my friend and team mate Johara Sykes-Davies, I love to start off like that because we always have fun in our heats, then I met Jalou Langeree on the semi-finals, it's good to have hair back after her absence on tour, and her come back was quite impressive, she pulled out some powerful moves such as blind judges and s-bend passes. After Jalou I met Gisela Pulido for the finals, I started off with a blind judge 3 that came out pretty good and it just felt right, so the rest of the heat fell on track and I took the win.

Now we'll wait to see if there will be any wind for the doubles, since the beginning of the event the wind hasn't shown up very often, instead we had quite a lot of rain, but I've been having a great time here, even the rain didn't bother me… I've been surfing everyday and even got some session in sick spots like Snapper Rocks and South Stradie :)

I just arrived on the Goald Coast yesterday after the event in New Caledonia, this year the amazing scenario of these Pacific Islands showed a different side to us, from last year's blue skies, turquoise water and nice winds to lots of rain, heavy clouds and strong winds, enough to have me over powered on my 5.5m, for a moment it felt like I was competing in Fuerteventura.

That was a shame since I was looking forward to the epic conditions of New Cal, we did have a little taste of it on the last day of competition, the only day that the wind was a bit lighter and I managed to ride with a 7m instead of a 5m.

This competition didn't go so well for me, I finished in 3rd place and ran over a drunk guy on the process, he was just hanging out inside the competition area and I was so concentrated that I didn't see him, next thing I know..Boom!! 2010 Brazilian Champion!!

Yesterday we finished the last stop of the Brazilian tour in Rio de Janeiro, as unfortunate as it sounds the wind didn’t show up for the freestyle in any of the 6 days of event, so out of the 3 stops we only had wind in one.
The competition was meant to finish on Sunday but since we didn’t have results for freestyle nor wave the organization decided to extend the event until Monday on the hope that the wind would show up. Monday was another day of long wait and no wind, at least there were little waves for a fun surf session.
With the 1st place from the stop in Cumbuco I became 2010 Brazilian Champion adding up to 4 Brazilian Championship titles, it’s amazing to see these results and think back to when I started, when winning one Brazilian Championship seemed impossible.
Now I’m home for a day before heading up to New Cal and Australia, this day better have more then 24hrs, because I have tons of clothes to be washed, dried and packed! Lets not forget the boardbag!

Argentina

PKRA Argentina

If I had to pick a word to describe this event in Argentina it would be unusual, imagine a competition set up on a lake surrounded by snowed mountains, where you can't really figure it out where the wind comes from, a water that reaches 8 degrees celsius. To wrap it up while having lunch you look out of the window and it snowing, yep, full on snow/ice flakes falling from the sky.

No need to say the conditions were extreme, I would say the most extreme we had this year, such cold winds with freezing cold waters does not bring the best riding on you. All of that made it really interesting and challenging, that plus the amazing scenario and tow's exquisite chocolates made this event fun on it's own way.

I had a thought time riding, it all felt like a dream where I was drunk and had no control over my actions, I finished the competition in 2nd place and considering the extreme cold that made people see tricks where they weren't, made them obssed with chocolate and ride like it was their very first time, I'm happy with the result.

On the way back home I got mixed up with my flight, I thought it was at 22:30h and it was at 18:35, so imagine my surprise when I got to the check in ( which was a mess since the airport in Buenos Aires was on strike) and found out I had lost my flight.. But there was this angels of a person checking me in and she sorted us out, found 2 seats ( I was with Luna my sis) in an overbooked flight and we headed home with big smiles on our faces.

Wow! Bariloche this time of year is amazing, I got in today to register for the competition and I'm amazed with how beautiful this place is. From snowed mountains, blue lakes and incredible sunsets, today I took some pics from my balcony and they look like postcards….enough of describing, I'll let the pics speak for themselves. Brazilian Tour Natal

This past weekend we had the 2nd stop of the Brazilian Tour powered by Wolksvagen, this time we went to Natal- Rio Grande do Norte, but unfortunately the wind was far from being suitable for a freestyle competition on the 3 days of the event.

Nothing worst then a long wait such as this one for a competitor, our luck was that the competition was based on the pool area of Vila do Mar Hotel, so while we waited we could take turns between the ocean a a swim in the pool.

Having only the result from the 1st stop in Cumbuco, all will be decided on the last stop of the tour in Rio de Janeiro, looking forward to that!

Brazilian Tour

Today we finished the first stop of the Brazilian Championship; I’m very pleased with my 1st place :) and looking forward for the next stops. The competition was held in Pico das Almas- Cumbuco, the beach is well know as a surf spot around here, that made things a bit complicated for us freestylers, but as everything is life there’s the negative and positive things, so as we dealt with very choppy waters we also had amazing kickers to hit.

Lots of girls showed up including some locals from Cumbuco, and a couple of foreign, at the beginning this seemed very odd to me but apparently there’s an international rule that allows citizens of different countries to compete on our nationals. So we welcomed them with open arms and had a great time with the girlz.

Volkswagen is sponsoring the 2010 Brazilian Tour and we have two more stops to go, they will be in Natal and Rio de Janeiro. The next one is Natal so I’ll be training in Cumbuco for a week or so and head down there for the comp. I haven’t been there in ages, probably 6 years, when I first started to kite, it was my first training trip and I remember spending the whole day on the beach, literally! Good times :)

Cumbuco day 1

Here we are back to my second home in Brazil, this time I have my sister and Alex Pastor with me to rock Cauipe lagoon, it feels great to be back and it’s almost strange to realize that I actually missed this place, I guess when I’m here I ride so much, suffer from sourness and sunburns that when I leave seems that I’m coming back from the battle field.
I wanted to come sooner but for some reason every time I thought of leaving my home convinced me to stay just a little longer, so after almost 2 months of “ should I go or should I stay” something came up and forced me out of Ilhabela, this something is the Brazilian Tour, we haven’t had one since 2008, now we are back with a 3 stop tour that starts tomorrow here in Cumbuco.
Yesterday was a sweet first day, with a session at the lagoon with my 5.5 Ion, a flat tire from taking the air from the tires to ride on the sand and a little fun action with Red Bull on Windzen to end the day. I’ll post some pics from the event last night on the next two days.

Naga Cable Park with Red Bull

Yesterday I headed with Red Bull to the Naga Cable Park here close to Sao Paulo, we could've picked better day, it was very warm and the sky was as blue as it gets, a perfect day get out of the big city and ride in perfect cable conditions.
We invited a couple of pro wakeboarders to come with us, they gave me a couple of tips of how to ride on the cable, I manage to pull some nice air tricks and got a sequence of a blind judge that will be published on the brazilian wakeboard magazine. The obstacles were a lot more challenging for me, the only one that was easy on me was the kicker, were I was trowing some 3's.
Today I'm pretty soar from riding the whole day, I'm impressed with how much more pop I could get on the cable in comparison to kiting, we ace the potential to ride with a lot more power then we are right now. From my experience the key is speed and commitment.

The next of the PKRA will only happen in the beginning of November so I found myself with a lot of time in my hands to work on projects with Red Bull and work on things that were pilling up at home since I never get to come home.
To make the best of this break from the PKRA, I decided to come to the Dreamkite 2010, this is a Brazilain event that happens in a place that follows the name of the event since it's really a dream for us kiters, the name of the spot is Barra do Cunhau, it's a river mouth with flat water with kickers on the outside, trade winds and warm water….not mentioning that the sun shines everyday, what else can we ask for?
I haven't competed in a Brazilian event since 2008! that was so long ago, so I figure it was time to come and ride with all my brazilian friends, have a little holiday and enjoy myself. It's been amazing here, I forgot how much fun I have on these Brazilian events with the crew! It's a completely different atmosphere, everyone is super chilled out and it's all about having fun. Since there were only 4 girls I'm also competing with the man, just to make them extra nervous with the idea of loosing for a girl :)
I'm impressed with the organization of the event and how well the competition is going, I didn't expect such a good structure for us riders and the huge amount of competitors that came, next year I'll come back for sure!
The other day we did a trip to a near by paradise called Baia Formosa, we were a group of 10 to 12 ppl and we added some more along the away when we stopped to take part on a interview for the local radio station, I thought it was a bar at the beginning, that's how small and unusual the radio station was! Baia Formosa is beautiful, we got there on the perfect tide for the waves, the waves got quite big and very fun.
I'll leave on monday back to Sao Paulo and finish my duties back there :) and enjoy my time in Brazil.

1st in Fuerteventura World Cup

1st place in Fuerteventura World Cup!

After a full day waiting for the challenges of the double elimination, today the time came and I felt ready for it, the wind was not as strong as the other days and it felt good not to be overpowered on my Ion 5.5m.
My challenger was the polish rider Karolina Winskowska, she defeated Gisela Pulido with solid and powerful riding giving her a 5X0 decision. But today I had my game on and performed well in these extreme conditions here in Fuerteventura, I landed my usual tricks plus a frontmobe and a blind judge switch, that also gave me a 5X0 decision against Karo. I'm very satisfied considering the 5.5m is a super fast and tricky size :)

Today was suppose to be about celebration but unfortunately one of us got injured, Kevin Langaree landed on a chop after a trick coming in and his knee popped out of place, injuring his ligaments. I really feel for him, this is a nightmare for us athletes, but he's is an amazing rider and a very determined person so I believe he'll be back soon to fight for his title. Kev I wish you all the best and hope to see you soon on the next comps!

Now it's Skymaster's time, today we did a few very fun heats, the device is attached to our boards and it measures the hight you reach on the jumps, of course there were tricks to gain extra hight like pulling your legs up when reaching the top, but the best was Sebastian Garat, that actually kicked his board up and gained a few meters more :) And tomorrow there's more big air!

1st on singles @ Fuerteventura

The competition finally started for me here in Fuerteventura, with unusual lighter winds we set off this morning with the first round of the men and worked out way up to the finals.
Again I had a quite tough way to the final, first meeting Joana Litwin then Karolina Winkowska, I advanced both heats riding on my 5.5m Ion and every time I went on the water the wind seemed to pick up even more. By the time it got to my final against Gisela Pulido the wind was blowing hard and we had a super challenging heat, I landed some powered tricks, my favorite one was a blind judge 3 going out, a gust caught me right on the middle and yanked me forward, I really thought I was going to crash pretty hard but somehow I pulled it off :) The conditions were really rad, that made it extra fun.

For the men Kevin Langaree won with a solid riding and big props for Alex Pastor and Andy Yates that were also killing it on these extreme conditions.

North of Fuerteventura

Since the last stop in Germany I've been training here in Fuerteventura, I was on the north of the island riding on the nice flat lagoons and flag beach with kickers. We were a big crew of riders since North was photoshooting there and Stance was making a video, here are some pics from these days….
Now I'm down south for the Fuerteventura World Cup, today was the registration and tomorrow action!!

This year in St. Peter Ording was nothing like the other ones, I've been coming here for 4 years now and this place still surprises me, this year we had an incredibly warm weather and wind on 9 out of the 10 days of competition.

For the single elimination we even got a Cauipe style session, flat water, good 9m wind and no wetsuit, that was amazing, I felt like I was riding in Brazil and won both of the heats I had that day, the first against polish rider Joana Litwin and the second also against a polish rider, Karolina Winkowska. I landed some nice tricks and for the first time in competition I landed my low mobe, it was actually very low, almost a back to wrap since the wind was dropping quickly and by the end of my last heat I could hardly go on the 11m, but it was fun anyway and I'm stoked on that.

Now the bad news was that I was extremely unlucky in both the final for the single elimination against Gisela Pulido and the double elimination challenge with Karolina Winkowska. It's funny but the same thing happened in both heats, i went out on the 9m, the wind picked up quickly and when I realized I was super overpowered, I had the feeling that the kite was controlling me, not the other way around :) So that heat I lost to Karolina meant a 3rd place for me and she went ahed and challenged Gisela for the 1st.

The doubles were finished Saturday so that meant party the same night, coincidently there was a huge hip hop concert and thousands of people, the organizers estimate 40.000 people!! I don't know how we PKRA crew managed to find each other on the middle of so many people and we had a blast.

On my way to Fuerteventura now, I will have a week on the north of the island to practice and surf a bit and then head south for the nest PKRA stop, see you there!
